Weld's original description of this species does not match his description in later work or that given by Russo; we follow the latter, which has A coortus as a stem club similar to Callirhytis clavula. A coortus apparently differs from C clavula in overwintering in the gall, rather than emerging in the same spring the gall develops on new growth. The dates given in the literature for A coortus could be consistent with a single-generation life cycle, though this would be unusual among cynipids. Based on the genetic and morphological similarity of A coortus with the sexual generation gall of the European species Andricus inflator, it seems reasonable to imagine that A coortus would have an agamic generation gall similar to the fall bud gall of that species.Andricus verensis closely matches that description morphologically but seems to differ in phenology, as a spring gall.
