A slight tapered swelling at the base of new growth twigs on Quercus alba. Polythalamous, containing multiple larvae with no apparent larval cells. The exterior of the gall is unusual in nearly always being marked by one or more splits or divots, sometimes concealed by atypically persistent bud scales. Observed containing larvae in Michigan in October.

This gall bears some resemblance to those ascribed to Lasioptera querciperda, also known on Quercus alba, but differs from descriptions and illustrations of that species in being apparently confined to the area just above the base of new growth. Additionally, larvae extracted from this gall seem to be cynipids rather than cecidomyiids.
