This unknown midge induces white haired galls at the terminal end of Ericameria nauseosa stems. The galls are sometimes composed of small hairy bumps and sometimes are only made up of white wool. There are always wide leafy bracts flanking the gall on all sides, sometimes standing erect and other times (usually with the bumpy galls) at a 90 degree angle to the stem. The galls apparently do not stop stem growth, as stems have been seen growing through galls several times. Very common on Ericameria in New Mexico. This species is tentatively synonymized with Russo's "Rhopalomyia sp. B".
