Abrupt swelling near the terminal end of Sphaeralcea stems. Several buds are sometimes present on the gall surface; it is unclear whether the buds were there prior to gall formation. Two leaves were emerging at the apex of the gall on a few specimens that were photographed. <a href="https://bugguide.net/node/view/1343102">An observation</a> of this gall on Bugguide had adult Cecidomyiid midges reared, implying that they are the gallformers. Observed in Mexico and throughout the Southwestern United States.
