Small, hairy galls at or near the juncture of lateral leaf veins and midrib. A Cecidomyiid exuvia was found protruding from a gall in New Mexico, suggesting that the inducer is a midge. How much of the gall shows on the dorsal surface of the host leaves is variable, sometimes so little is visible as to be nearly parallel with the leaf surface and <a href="https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/126258172">other times</a> the gall protrudes equally on the dorsal and ventral leaf surfaces.
