Distribution: Nearctic: United States of America (California, New York, Ohio). Palaearctic: Europe, Russia (Kirghiz).
Host: Salix; doubtful records from Populus (Spencer 1966).

Two species are now known in Canada but it seems probable that a third species, [Hexomyza] simplicoides [syn: Euhexomyza] (Hd.), forming galls on Salix spp., which the author confirmed in the United States will also in due course be discovered in Canada.
