Stephomyia eugeniae

Galls are monothalamous, boot-shaped, and covered with white hairs. Similarly shaped, but smooth galls are in the USNM collection; it is possible they are made by a different species of Stephomyia. Pupation occurs in the gall, and pupae break out of the toe of the boot. In aggregate the galls sometimes cover the entire surface of the leaf.

Host: Eugenia buxifolia [this host apparently does not occur in the US and contradicts the listing in Gagne's 1989 book. It is likely a mistake. The gall illustrated in figure 327 on the upper side of the leaf, reported from Eugenia axilaris in Florida, matches the description given in that book as well]
